The descendants of Manasseh: through Makir, the Makirite clan Makir was the father of Gilead; through Gilead, the Gileadite clan


Numbers [ 32 : 1 ]
The Reubenites and Gadites, who had very large herds and flocks, saw that the lands of Jazer and Gilead were suitable for livestock

Moses said to the Gadites and Reubenites, "Should your fellow Israelites go to war while you sit here?

The Gadites and Reubenites said to Moses, "We your servants will do as our lord commands

When they came to Geliloth near the Jordan in the land of Canaan, the Reubenites, the Gadites and the half-tribe of Manasseh built an imposing altar there by the Jordan

The LORD has made the Jordan a boundary between us and you-you Reubenites and Gadites! You have no share in the LORD.' So your descendants might cause ours to stop fearing the LORD

Then Phinehas son of Eleazar, the priest, and the leaders returned to Canaan from their meeting with the Reubenites and Gadites in Gilead and reported to the Israelites

They were glad to hear the report and praised God. And they talked no more about going to war against them to devastate the country where the Reubenites and the Gadites lived

And the Reubenites and the Gadites gave the altar this name: A Witness Between Us-that the LORD is God

After the two months, she returned to her father, and he did to her as he had vowed. And she was a virgin. From this comes the Israelite tradition

that each year the young women of Israel go out for four days to commemorate the daughter of Jephthah the Gileadite

Jephthah then called together the men of Gilead and fought against Ephraim. The Gileadites struck them down because the Ephraimites had said, "You Gileadites are renegades from Ephraim and Manasseh."


Judges [ 12 : 5 ]
The Gileadites captured the fords of the Jordan leading to Ephraim, and whenever a survivor of Ephraim said, "Let me cross over," the men of Gilead asked him, "Are you an Ephraimite?" If he replied, "No,"


Judges [ 12 : 7 ]
Jephthah led Israel six years. Then Jephthah the Gileadite died and was buried in a town in Gilead
